Arlo Develops Scripted Drama Series On Music Industry With Lionsgate’s, Eleven Films
Arlo, the talented Black British songwriter, artist and actor is now developing a new exciting drama series with Lionsgate Studio and Eleven Films, the producers of Netflix’s critically-acclaimed show Sex Education - which will follow a young Black man in East London as he deals with complex relationships between his working-class background and success within the music industry.
Repped by CAA worldwide for TV, Music and Film, Arlo was proudly named one of the influential new faces in music in the U.K. newspaper The Evening Standard. With millions of music streams and sold out headline shows in London, it is no wonder, the talented individual signed a major recording deal earlier this year with Sony Music Entertainment’s Arista Records label. His recent collaboration with Grammy nominated and leading US rapper, Mick Jenkins “Changing”, cemented his stature as the artist to watch and we couldn’t agree more.
Commenting on the British recording artist, Lionsgate UK SVP International Acquisitions & Co-productions Marc Lorber states: “ARLO is an exciting young actor and recording artist with a strong creative vision and an inspiring and relatable story that will translate into a compelling scripted television series. Already a rising superstar in the music world, we’re thrilled to partner with him on his first foray into television.”
Working on the series alongside Arlo is director and writer Aki Omoshaybi, whose debut feature film as a writer, director and producer, ‘REAL,’ had its world premiere at the 63rd BFI London Film Festival. Not only has Aki won the ‘Rising Star Award’ at this year’s Screen Nation Awards, but has been long listed at BIFA Awards for Best Debut Director, Best Debut Screenwriter and The Raindance Discovery Award. “Arlo and Aki are prodigiously talented, insightful people as well as being beautifully in tune when it comes to the story they want to tell together,” adds Eleven’s Co-founder and Creative Director Joel Wilson. “It has been a real privilege to sit with them and watch this series begin to come to life.
Lionsgate TV credits include Orange is The New Black, Nashville, Dear White People, Anger Management, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Tyler Perry's House of Payne and the Emmy Award-winning Mad Men.
